Breton Ability Centre (BAC) believes in creating an innovative environment which promotes teamwork, learning, wellness and safety as we enrich the lives of the people that we support. In keeping with this culture statement, we are embarking on a Healthy Workplace journey.
Our short term goal is to utilize this Framework as an external national framework to validate and build on the foundational work which has been done to date. We will pursue a healthy workplace using Excellence Canada’s 2021 Healthy Workplace Framework (HWP) with it’s focus on desired outcomes.
The Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia (WCB) and the Department of Community Services are dedicated to promoting psychological health and safety (PHS) in the workplace. The role of workplace leaders is crucial in ensuring psychological health and safety in the workplace. SLTC and WCB are seeking learning partners as part of an upcoming pilot that tests a tool/ approach that identifies a limited (2-3) set of workplace behavioural interventions tailored to a workplace and aligned with National and international standards. By participating in this pilot, Breton Ability Centre is demonstrating a commitment to promoting a safe and healthy workplace environment for our employees and contribute to broader research focused on making Nova Scotian workplaces where everyone feels engaged, safe, valued, and respected. The objective of the pilot is to develop a program that will promote tactics within a psychological health and safety (PHS) “Plan/Do/Check/Act” directional framework.
The pilot will take an action research approach where the project team will work closely with participants through training, planning behaviour change interventions, implementing the interventions, providing ongoing support, and evaluating outcomes. It will inform potential broader PHS interventions and implementations in the future.
