The Sensory Station Project

The Sensory Station Project

Pause. Regulate. Participate.
Because Everyone Deserve to Be Part of the Moment.

Community events bring people together, but for some individuals, loud sounds, bright lights, crowds, and busy environments can become overwhelming.

The Sensory Station Project helps make community events more welcoming and inclusive by providing a quiet, sensory-friendly space where people can take a break, access sensory supports, and return to enjoying the event when they are ready.

Everyone experiences the world differently. The Sensory Station is here to help make sure more people can take part in the moments that matter.

What is the Sensory Station?

The Sensory Station is a portable sensory-friendly space that travels to community events throughout Cape Breton.

It offers a calm, welcoming environment where anyone can take a break from the activity of an event and access simple sensory supports.

There is no wrong reason to use the Sensory Station. Whether you need a quiet moment, a place to regroup, or a sensory tool to help you feel comfortable, you are welcome here.

The Sensory Station includes:

  • Noise-cancelling headphones
  • Weighted lap pads
  • Fidget tools
  • Visual supports
  • Comfortable seating
  • A quiet space to relax

The supports available may vary depending on the event.

Why It Matters

Community events should be places where everyone feels welcome.

For some people, taking a short break in a quieter space can make the difference between leaving an event early and being able to stay and enjoy it.

The Sensory Station Project helps remove barriers by providing a space where people can pause, regulate, and continue participating in the event.

Our Vision

We believe community events should be welcoming and accessible for everyone.

The Sensory Station Project is one way we are helping remove barriers and create spaces where more people can participate, connect, and belong.

Supported by Community

The Sensory Station Project is an initiative of Breton Ability.

We are proud to launch this project thanks to the generous support of
Sydney Credit Union, whose Community Grant is helping bring sensory inclusion to events across our community.

Together, we are helping make community events more welcoming for everyone.

Watch for the Sensory Station Project at community events throughout the year.

When you see our tent, you will know there is a welcoming place to Pause, Regulate, and Participate.

You can help improve the lives of Breton Ability residents.
