Murray is a seasoned finance executive, with 25+ years in senior leadership positions at growth-oriented companies.  He has guided accounting, tax, and internal audit functions, as well as shareholder/stakeholder relations, to pursue each company’s growth strategy and meet its clients’ and investors’ expectations.

 

Murray is a lifelong resident of North Sydney and attended St. Francis Xavier University where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in History as well as his Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Accounting.  He received his Chartered Public Accountant (CPA) Designation in 1998 and is currently enrolled in Cape Breton University’s MBA program.

 

Most recently Murray served as a Member of the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly from 2019 to 2021. Serving in opposition, Murray was the Finance critic for the Official Opposition and also served on the Veteran’s Affairs Committee.  In addition to legislative and committee sessions, responsibilities also included meeting with constituents to address their issues, concerns and worked on their behalf with various government departments and agencies.

 

Murray has extensive experience in a wide range of leadership, financial management and advisory positions, for private and publicly traded companies. Murray has worked closely with senior management, board of director’s and audit committees. Throughout his career, Murray has established a reputation for aligning financial and business metrics to support business strategy and high growth, leading the transformation of financial and operational systems and controls. Murray has been involved in multiple equity and debt financings and raised in excess of $50 million.

 

A long time member and former president of the North Sydney Rotary Club, Murray is also a former member of the Breton Ability Centre (2017-19) and is pleased to be rejoining the board of the organization.
